The International
Association of Fire Chiefs (IAFC) has announced that its
Board of Directors has adopted a strong position in support
of fire sprinkler installation in new construction, including
one- and two-family dwellings.
The formal statement is part
of IAFC’s effort to reduce
fire injury, death and property damage. It calls for protecting
communities in “non-traditional ways with proactive,
rather than reactive, approaches.”
The IAFC, which
is a member of the Home Fire Sprinkler Coalition (HFSC)
Board, has pledged not only to work in partnership with
other organizations that support increased fire sprinkler
protection, but to also oppose regulations that prevent
or discourage their installation as well. “We also
stand against fees and charges that create economic barriers
to the installation of fire sprinklers,” the Board
statement reads.
