New
Video Now Available
HFSC has produced an informative
new video designed specifically for the fire service
to share with local community officials as part of their
home fire sprinkler education outreach.
The video was developed in response to the most common
questions and concerns voiced about home fire sprinklers
by building officials and other local leaders. At only
15-minutes duration and presented in DVD format, it is
ideal for including in both formal and informal municipal
presentations.
The fast-paced video covers the basics of
home installation, water supply and builder trade-ups,
and features the personal experience of a wide range of
professionals in the homebuilding industry. Safety experts
provide context for sprinklers in the overall home fire
problem. The video is hosted by HFSC spokesperson Ron Hazelton,
and filmed, in part, in his sprinklered home.
New Online
Content
With generous funding through a 2006 Department
of Homeland Security/Federal Emergency Management Agency
grant, HFSC has also developed new online content intended
to support fire service sprinkler education efforts targeted
at local officials.
HFSC’s Web site has been updated
with new content in the Fire Service section to simplify
educational outreach to community officials. A centerpiece
of the new online offerings is a ready-to-use PowerPoint
presentation specifically designed for outreach to building
officials and others in the community who are key decision-makers
about home construction issues.
Combined, the new video and PowerPoint
offer the fire service a ready-made presentation that addresses
technical and installation basics, consumer demand, high-risk
populations and much more.
Additionally, HFSC has created
a new Local Officials
section on its Web site. “With
so much misinformation out there, we wanted to make it
easy for building and other local officials to find the
facts they need about home fire sprinklers online,” says
HFSC communications manager Peg Paul. “Thanks to
the 2006 DHS/FEMA funding, we’ve been able to create
a space and new content that will go a long way toward
increasing awareness among community officials.”
