The nonprofit Home Safety Council (HSC), a member of the HFSC Steering Committee, has teamed up with the Wisconsin Alliance for Fire Safety to offer a free community education resource to fire and life safety educators.

Through the Expert Network section of its Web site (www.homesafetycouncil.org/expertnetwork), HSC invites fire, life safety and public health experts to join the Network to benefit from free educational materials developed by the Home Safety Council and its partners. In addition to online materials and free downloads, all new members receive a welcome package of free tools, including a VHS copy of the comprehensive home fire safety video produced by the Alliance.

The video, “A Burning Issue: Is Your Family Safe?,” features HFSA spokesperson Ron Hazelton, who is also the home improvement editor for ABC TV’s Good Morning America and whose own home and family are protected by fire sprinklers.

“ A Burning Issue” is segmented into three educational components that can be used together or separately: 1) home fire prevention, 2) smoke alarms and escape planning, and 3) home fire sprinkler systems. HSC also provides new members of its Expert Network with original lesson plans developed expressly for use with the video.

Nearly 1,800 public safety experts have joined the Home Safety Council Expert Network. To sign up and receive your free video, visit HSC’s Web site: www.homesafetycouncil.org and click on “Expert Network” in the lower right corner of the home page.
