To inform people who plan to build new homes about the life-saving benefits of home fire sprinklers, this ad appeared in national magazines including Better Homes & Gardens Home Planning Ideas, various House Beautiful magazines, Fine Homebuilding and Smart Homeowner. HFSC 30-second TV spots with spokesperson Ron Hazelton appeared on HGTV in May.
As with the first phase, the goal of “Living with Sprinklers” is to reduce residential fire deaths and injuries by generating interest in home fire sprinkler systems and an increase in their installation. Because adults age 50 and over have a higher than average fire risk, and a risk that increases with age, they are an important target audience of HFSC’s. Among the second phase activities is HFSC’s role as an Elite Sponsor of the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) Senior Housing Council, which provides a valuable resource for reaching this very important older-adult audience with home sprinkler facts.

“ HFSC is grateful to have the generous financial support provided through the Department of Homeland Security grants,” Keith said. “The ‘Built for Life’ program has demonstrated its ability to sustain a national strategy to reach the home building community with the facts they need to make sensible decisions about installing sprinklers in the homes they build. ‘Living with Sprinklers’ is the next logical step in our efforts to increase the number of sprinklered homes and ultimately lower the national fire death and injury rates.”
