Sprinkler Contractors Work Quickly

Randall said the house stayed on schedule. It’s the first residential installation of a sprinkler system in Lakeland.

As with all residential sprinkler systems, the Calloway’s system activates only when and where needed, so parts of the house not touched by fire are not destroyed. It also includes a bell in the back of the house that sounds when a fire is present.

The Calloway family is very happy with the results. "We feel very secure with this system in place," said homeowner Beverly Calloway. "Particularly with our special-needs child."

"We’re so proud of what we’re building," reports Twomey. "There’s a certain perception that because Habitat for Humanity homes are for lower-income families, they’re not very good. This house proves that we do everything we can to make our homes not only affordable for families, but also safe to live in. Sprinklers are intended to save lives and property. I hope to see them in more of our homes. If even one life is saved, it’s well worth it. And particularly for the Calloway family, it could easily make the difference between life and death."
